An adventure trek through some of the north’s picturesque countryside. Approximately 25 kilometres northwest of Chiang Mai is Mae Sa Elephant Camp and it is here we head to watch the demonstration of elephants at work, moving logs and generally showing off their various skills. After the display, there is an exciting elephant trek through the woods, and over hilly trails - a real adventure and wonderful experience. The adventure then continues west in appropriate vehicles for a visit to a Meo hilltribe with an opportunity to explore the tribal huts and observes the normal, almost primitive way of life. Continue on to a nearby orchid farm where lunch is served. After lunch there is time to explore the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden and learn about the tropical plant and flowers, returning to your hotel at approximately 3:00pm.

The day starts early with a drive through Phang Nga province passing rubber plantations and small villages en route to Khao Sok. Nearing our destination the scenery changes, beside the road views of mountains covered in rainforest can be seen. Khao Sok is part of the largest area of rainforest in southem Thailand. The Sok river valley cuts through the jungle and spectacular views of Limestone Mountain and cliffs can be seen. This was once part of an ancient trade route linking China and India. One of the best ways to experience the jungle is to canoe down the Sok river in inflatable canoes. A local guide paddles the canoe and is expert at spotting any animals along the way. The exotic tropical vegetation clinging to the river banks with limestone cliffs and mountains rising up on both sides creates a secret primeval world that very few people every see. Your cruise along Bangkok's Chao Phraya river will stop at the Temple of Dawn, or Wat Arun, which is one of the city's most famous landmarks. Located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river, Wat Arun is among the most famous of the more than 400 Buddhist temples and monasteries in the city. The most attractive structure in this temple is the 260 feet high pagoda, or Phra Prang, which is completely covered with pieces of multi-colored glass and Chinese porcelain. If time permits we will walk to the upper levels where you will take in a panoramic view of the surrounding city.
Cruising on you will stop at the Royal Barge Museum, where nine of the most important barges are housed in this national museum, including Suphannahongsa and Narai Song Suban Rama IX. The tradition of royal barges dates back to Ayutthaya times, when they were used to transport the Kings in various ceremonies and processions. These barges were rebuilt by the early Chakri kings in Bangkok to the original specifications. Most were badly damaged during World War II. However, the present King not only had them all restored to their former glory, but revived the ancient tradition of a water-borne Royal Kathin Procession to present robes to monks at the end of the Buddhist Rains Retreat.

This private tour will drive through a corridor of beautiful Gum trees to the quiet old capital of the 7th century Haripunchai Empire. Lamphun, formerly Haripunchai, situated 16 miles to the south of Chiang Mai, is amongst the oldest cities in Thailand and predates Chiang Mai by several centuries. Northern Thai chronicles suggest that the city of Haripunchai was founded by some Buddhist monks in 661 AD, but the actual date may have been as late as the mid-ninth century. Visits are made to two temples of Lamphun, which are among the finest in the region, the 12th century: WAT PHRA THAT HARIPUNCHAI, which has two beautiful old chedi's in the original Haripunchai style. The tallest chedi is 150 feet high and is topped by a nine-tier umbrella made of 14lb of gold, and WAT CHAMADEVI, dates back at least to the 10th century and was built by the Mons. The main pagoda has five levels, on each of which twelve standing Buddhas are set in attitudes of blessing. The top of Pagoda was once covered with gold but this has since disappeared, hence the temple’s popular name Wat Ku Kut (Topless Pagoda). Another stop is made at the local market before heading back to Chiang Mai.
